Cunningham to Vote Against Partisan Coronavirus Response Package
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Joe Cunningham (SC-01) today announced he would vote against H.R. 6800, the Heroes Act, releasing the following statement:
“This is Washington politics at its worst. While South Carolina families, small business owners, and workers are struggling, now is not the time to advance a partisan wish list or refuse to come to the negotiating table. At a time when our country is in real trouble, we should not be spending precious time on one-sided solutions that aren’t going anywhere.
“Congress has an obligation to be responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. American small businesses, families, and our state and local governments urgently need more aid, but it must be targeted -- especially when we are discussing spending trillions of dollars. Instead, this legislation includes unrelated partisan objectives without adequately funding the small business resources my constituents desperately need.
“Over the last few months, as America has confronted an unprecedented public health and economic crisis, Congress has put politics aside to pass bipartisan legislation that provided our constituents with much-needed relief. It is incredibly disappointing that we were not able to do that today. Now it is time for both sides to go back to the negotiating table and deliver bipartisan results that provide desperately-needed aid to state and local governments, and increased funding and flexibility for small businesses.”
